There are also a small number of places made available for high school teachers to participate in the program. Teachers participate fully as team members working directly with the students to build a web site and search engine. Once again, no experience is required or expected, but we give preference to computing (or future computing) teachers. Teachers are expected to stay in the Women's College with NCSS students and staff.

The cost for teachers is the same for students (in 2008 the cost was $330). Apart from the course fees, all we ask is a very small amount of help with crowd control from time to time.

We feel that this is an ideal in-service opportunity to learn something that can be directly passed onto your students. The feedback from teachers in the past has been very positive and we feel that their contribution to the school is invaluable.

Benefits for Teachers

  • learn some more about computer programming from expert academic and professional programmers
  • discover an easy to learn (and teach) OO programming language that is freely available, and easy to download and install on practically every operating system
  • comprehensive course and tutorial notes covering the Python language, the project and a full program that can be freely reused with interested students
  • exposure to current Computer Science research and technology
  • a chance to discuss computing with academic staff, students and professional programmers
  • a refreshing opportunity to learn with students directly in a different role to usual

Letter to teachers

More details are available about teachers' involvement in NCSS in the letter sent to teachers with the poster and application form.
